Growth

Growth is another project I did to get back into the studio. It is comprised of a 1/8th" thick piece of copper and 18 gauge brass sheet. I layered the copper on top of the brass, then etched the copper with a plant like design reaching towards the bail. I then etched some straight lines onto the brass. At the time I was working from an old drawing and was changing the over all design as I went. The copper was originally suppose to be the bottom with the plant still etched on it while the top was going to be the etched brass. The lines to me were representing curtians while the copper was the window that a plant grew in. Reversing the copper and the brass as made the etched lines feel more like a flower pot now that I have had a chance to look at it.

Although not shown, the back of the pendant repeats the over all shape of the front. At the top of the back are 3 square brass tubes that fix the bail to the pendant, repeating the line design on the front. The whole pendant was dipped into a brass brown/black patina and the wipped dry several times. A polishing cloth was used to achieve the warn look of the edges and surface.

Even though this was a simple pendant, I feel it has achieved the right amount of complexity to make it interesting to the eye.
