The realization of how far behind I have gotten on my bills this semester has finally hit. Nothing big, no bill collectors of anything, but I had some time between assignments and thought I would add a few things up. Wow, I do not see why they have not come to take all my stuff away yet :-D . I must really want to graduate this semester if I have allowed my self the luxury of being behind on stuff. Full on drive that nothing is going to stop, even the need to work more hours at work to pay the bills (which would get in the way of finishing projects). I had a choice, and I made it. I graduate May 3rd, if I can hold off a little longer I should be fine. Problem is I need tires and repairs for my car in the mean time.
Thats where the thought of doing commission work started rattling around in my head. If not commission work, then selling some of the pieces I already have. Another problem comes up when dealing with this. I am terrible at pricing. Not being sure of myself I tend to run into the problem of pricing, as I delved into in a previous journal.
That's where you come into all this, my adoring fans. You get the opportunity to start me on the path down a beautiful road of being able to accurately price my pieces. What I thought I would do is link a few of my images in my gallery with a price that I think would be fair for them, or for more commissioned pieces of the same type. Sound good to you??? I am reaching out and I hope that many of you are willing to take the time and help me through this dilemma.
So.. The links and some descriptions if needed.
Pendant # 6
[link]and Pendant # 1
[link](both these are etched brass and copper, time to take to produce around 15 hours each, they can be made with different etched patterns in the surface and to different sizes. These measure about 2.5 inches tall, surface treatments also very as I can make them black or very shiny)
Price= I was thinking $60 to $70 usd each, depending on complexity of the bails and pattern etched into the surfaces. They do not come with chains.
Carved Rings

[link]And
[link](Although the one shown is a master brass casting for multiple mold production, there was one in silver that looked great. I have done a couple others that ranged in size from 5 to 13 US standard, the one pictured is a 13. They can be sized up, but never down. I can produce one similar to this in about 5 days depending on the size. 1 day set for casting the final and another day for kiln hardening the sterling silver to resist scratches and dings. The surface treatment can be highly polished, or my personal favorite, patina black and then polished leaving the recessed areas darker. )
Price= $60 to 100$ usd. This one is very dependant of how much silver is used in the process.
Revalued Pendant 5
[link]And Revalued Pendant 4
[link](These are the two standard shaped I have set on for these pendants, they take about 5 to 6 hours to make and are made from copper, brass and found objects. They can also be made with silver. Surface treatments again either polished (which I like), or patina, or even painted. I have a patina version not picture in the gallery that does look nice. Another version of the pendants does not have the bails and the chain passes through them, also not pictured.)
Price= $20 - $30 usd. Unless they are made from silver which will probable make the price closer to $50 usd. Again, no chains included, but chains would not be hard to find and they go well with silver.
Other Works - Commissions
[link][link]These works prices would be hard for me; they take a long time, usually 2 to 3 weeks to complete, and a lot of planning another 2 weeks prior to production. I would probable price the Reliquary with Bone at $175 - $225 range. Inner Workings took a lot more planning and would range at $200 - $350 usd. The materials are brass and copper, although I can work these into silver with the price jumping to accommodate for it. Probable another $100 increase to the price.
Individual commissioned pieces this involved that I would design from scratch would probable take a month to 2 months; prices would range of course, so I could not begin to make a scale for that.
A side note, in my gallery are some intaglio prints, if you think any of those would sell let me know. They would range from $15 dollars for the smaller ones like
[link] and
[link] , to $30-$50 usd for ones like
[link] and
[link] . My imagery is not the best, but I feel they are not terrible either. I also have two other prints about the size of the last ones that are currently being printed and I will post them soon.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope that I can find answers here.
